Garden of Morning Calm

The Garden of Morning Calm (아침고요수목원) is a must visit place during your Korean trip especially if you love flowers and nature. This garden was started in an effort to share Korean style gardens with the world and is a wonderful oasis located in the Gapyeong area of Gyeonggi-do. Here is a short history about the invasion of this garden.

'The garden was conceptualized by Professor Han Sang-kyung (Gardening Department, Sahmyook University) while he was serving as an exchange professor in America. His vision was to create a garden that would become world-famous and spread the concept of Korean beauty throughout the world. The inspiration for the garden stemmed from a poem written by Sir Tagore, a great Indian poet, who described Korea during the Joseon Dynasty as "The Land of the Morning Calm."'(Source : Visit Korea

It is very easy to get here from Seoul and there are a variety of festivals and displays held throughout the year. You can also see this place in some Korean dramas like 'Smile Again, Dong Hae (웃어라 동해야, 2010)', 'You're Beautiful (미남이시네요, 2009)', 'A Love To Kill (이죽일놈의사랑, 2005)'. Of all the beautiful gardens in Korea, the Garden of Morning Calm is certainly a great place to visit in every season especially summer!

A Juniper Tree (향나무) is the center of attention in this garden area

You can also find an European-old-style small house. But too bad visitors are not allowed to enter it.

Every summer, there is a 'Rose of Sharon Festival'(무궁화 축제) where you can enjoy the beauty of about 150 kinds of rose of Sharon. The festival is usually held from July 15 until August 31 from 08.30-20.00. Don't miss the date guys!
