October marks the true start of autumn season, with the landscape silently exploding with vibrant colours of red, yellow, and orange. Before the leaves begin to drop off the trees, the temperatures begin to drop further or the nights getting even longer, how about an escapade to nearby Seoul to Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do? :)
Let us begin with Pocheon Art Valley, a former old stone quarry. This quarry was abandoned back in the mid 1990s until October 2009 when the Art Valley opened to the public transformed after it is transformed into a beautiful art park with various artistic sculptures, a performance stage, and of course the crystal clear lake in the center of the pit with enormous cliffs that drop off into the lake.

From the parking lot you have two options to get to the main park. Either by taking the monorail or simply walk up the hill. The hill is a little steep but it is still good enough to hike and it takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the top, depending on one's walking speed. Once you arrive at the top of the hill, you may choose to enter either the space astronomical science museum that comprises an exhibition hall for space, and cutting edge 4D video room, or an astronomical observation room that offers constellation reading or walk to the quarry pit which is filled with crystal clear water.
Go down and climb another hill to see the wishing papers written by visitors, as well as, getting another panoramic view of the park. From the rear side near the wishing garden, you will have to go down down two sets of spiral staircases. It is fun but might be scary for the acrophobias.
Of course, you can't miss having a short break over a cup of ice/warm drink at such a cozy little cafe!
Visited by over 300,000 people each year, Pocheon Art Valley is the perfect place for family excursions thanks to its splendid natural scenery and excellent facilities! You may also find more information here.
